That's a sweet sentiment... one he can't deny that he likes. He's seen the way the two of them play, but the line to Jade had been so blurred. No one leaps to play with Floyd the way that Rook does and such kindness towards himself felt alien and strange. It's only natural to want to make a good impression on someone's family, isn't it?

Then again, that applies to this situation as well.

Should he... apologize? Some things certainly feel a lot more obvious. Perhaps showing Rook this much of himself was accidentally far more forward than he realized? "I suppose we should talk, then."
