"Why?" He rises from the water again, water dripping from the deep slits along his ribcage. The shape of his bones are only emphasized by such delicate gills. A striking contrast of his strong shape versus the fragile nature of water-breathing creatures.
What a beautiful creature..... For a moment, Rook simply stares, openly admiring as Jade rears up. He can't wait to get his hands on him, feel those power muscles surging and struggling, see those razor sharp teeth tearing through flesh up close.....
That sigh is entirely too dreamy, for someone who seems to accept having a prisoner in such stride. "Why? Why wouldn't I? I'm not going to throw away an opportunity that falls right in my lap. I can't hire any assistants either, with the kind of contracts I take; I'll enjoy having some company while I work. Besides, even if I were to release you straight away, you would still be wanting revenge, wouldn't you? People's lives would be at stake."
"Even more than that, though..... I'm curious. Now that I've gotten a good look at you, I want to know all about you. I want to learn everything there is to know."
For the second time, the thoughts occurs to him: his use, this man's entertainment, and what will happen once it ends.
Has he already seen the last of his home back in the Coral Sea? Was his brother's screaming, primal yelling as he tried to rip and tear him from his captor's net the last he would see of him? Was Floyd even home or was he somewhere else with a man just like this one? Jade's hand comes to rest on his right side, just over his lowest gill with a grimace. The wound there is still unpleasant, but considering how it feels he can estimate it happened a day or so ago... unlikely to be longer. How long had he been laying on the deck of that boat, gills flaring and his body hanging on only by its own natural moisture?
Even the little bit of water he has now is better than nothing, but it doesn't make the situation feel any better. Maybe, if he plays his cards right, he can do at least something about this situation he's found himself in.
"Have you studied merfolk before?" He does have his little book that he keeps referencing, after all. Though Jade's own dialect differs.
"Why, no! It's a good opportunity to broaden my horizons; I've only ever known one as a classmate." And he unfortunately hadn't gotten much chance to do more than simply research him as best he could from the shadows.
Even so, he had remained curious. Who ever would have guessed that he would get the chance to satisfy that curiosity in such depth? Now he's glad that he'd kept this book, even if it hasn't seen use in such a long time. "Ahhhh, I wonder if there's some sort of trouble in the Coral Sea? I should be prepared. Isn't this too much to just be done on a whim? Someone is sure to miss you."
Equipment to buy, experiments to design, training to intensify just in case he's needed to help solve some sort of underwater conundrum..... He's going to be so busy he'll barely even have time to breathe, won't he?
"Not at all." It's a lie, but he isn't going to offer anything for the other man to potentially use against him.
That would be foolish. The last thing he would want is for him to get someone to go poking around and prying his family from their comfortable home under the guise of 'understanding'. Was his classmate from the Coral Sea, too? Perhaps somewhere further off... it really doesn't matter. Jade's large body shifts, his long tail bunched and twisting with the effort as he brings his body down to lay as best he can. He doubts he'll be able to sleep with lights this bright and fluorescent... but he can at least close his eyes for a while to ignore the scientist and plot for himself.
Research usually means examination. Would he dare to touch him? It would be a good opportunity... Jade would just need to bide his time and wait for a chance to bury his fangs into the human's throat. So for now, with no potential meal yet in sight by the man's own admission, he should save his already failing strength.
