Unlike a majority of the Twisted Wonderland cast, Jade was born in the Coral Sea as a species of merfolk. In his youth, he and his twin brother Floyd grew up in a loving family with loving parents. Their parents worked in a business where others often tried to be in their favor. While their family’s business hasn’t been outright stated, but it is clear that the work is unsavory. Since Jade and Floyd were young, they were showered in gifts by strangers to try and get in their father’s good graces–to the point where their father demanded that every gift be given with a written and a signed disclaimer stating that the gift was given to the twins with no desire for anything in return.

In elementary school, Jade met his good friend Azul Ashengrotto and, together with his brother, the three became an inseparable group. While at first Azul’s crybaby attitude was simply amusing to the twins they soon found themselves as his loyal partners. Much like the Sea Witch from the Great Seven.

Around a year before the story begins, they take to land to start their first year at the Night Raven College. They were able to come to land by taking potions to have and retain a human form. Sometime shortly after they arrived, they started the Mostro Lounge with Azul as the manager with Jade and Floyd as his bouncers.

During the main story, a few students make a deal with Azul. Azul gives them perfect exam notes to help them ace their finals, but in exchange, if they do not rank in the top 50 they have to be his slaves. The thing is, Jade and Floyd had spent their entire first year and beginning of the newest semester advertising Azul’s ‘generous deals’ and over 200 students had made the same deal with him. Naturally, not everyone can be in the top 50 so the main cast lost the deal. Jade and Floyd were then in charge of training them to work at the Lounge. The main character makes a deal with Azul–if they can steal a picture from within a museum in the Coral Sea then Azul will release all of his slaves. If they fail, then he will take their entire dorm for himself.

Jade and Floyd try to stop the main character from stealing the picture, but ultimately fail. Azul in his anger ends up ‘Overblotting’ and becoming mad with power. Once he’s defeated, the three Octanivelle students come to terms and decide to try and do better.

Personality:
-Diligent
Efficiency and diligence are traits that Jade admires. Coming from the sea has left him at a disadvantage on the mainland. Because of this, he works extensively to make sure that he is successful and that those close to him thrive. He studies and maintains high marks, manages a cafe, performs vice-house warden duties while also acting as a secretary to Azul.

Any task given is a priority for him and he stops at nothing to ensure that everything he does is perfect to the letter.

-Prideful
A product of his diligence comes the negative trait of pridefulness. While Jade is hard-working and often worthy of praise, he doesn’t actually care much of people’s opinions. He knows he is flawless in his work. While his subservient personality can sometimes make it seem like he accepts others overlooking him, he makes it a point that others know he’s superior to them by reminding them of their station versus his own. This is especially true to those that work beneath him. When Azul enslaves 150 students during exams, Jade encourages them to challenge Azul (and the twins Jade and Floyd themselves) for their freedom, but only because he is overly confident that he won’t lose.

-Sneaky
Among the Octavinelle students, Jade is by far the most ‘background’ of them. While he is the vice-dorm leader and one of the top students of his class, he is the type to make himself fade into the background. He keeps things to himself (including his true feelings) and he is incredibly efficient at finding things out about others that they would rather keep hidden. He gathers important information for Azul on more than one occasion. When the new group of students arrived at the College, he provided Azul with a list of all of their social media accounts–public and private. He monitors them also so he can be sure to bring up anything that may be important to them as well as to build a false sense of ‘closeness’ with others.

His sneakiness includes hiding his own feelings as well as his true intentions. Another Vice-Dorm Leader expressed concern with Jade that he thought Jade was taking on too much and offered to be his shoulder to lean on. Jade uses this to his advantage too.

-Co-dependent
Above all, Jade’s biggest flaw is his co-dependency. Along with keeping his feelings hidden, he often doesn’t speak his true thoughts very often. Everything he does is for the benefit of his brother Floyd or his childhood friend Azul. He is rarely seen without one of the two and it has been that way since they were children.

Until the end of chapter 3, Jade rarely does things if he isn’t explicitly told to. Even things like revenge are things others plan for him even though he is more than capable of coming up with things himself. This is something he is working on, but he still often needs to be reminded that he is his own living, breathing being and not just a tool to be used.

Powers and Abilities:
Alchemy is Jade’s specialty. He is fond of making and brewing potions for all sorts of effects. Healing, poisons, you name it. Normally, potions for changing one’s appearance would be considered forbidden, but in the case of the merfolk they are allowed to make a potion to give themselves human features when they step on dry land. When they re-enter water, they return to their original forms.

He is very good at identifying wildlife flora.

Adept swimming due to being merfolk by blood. His exact speed has never been mentioned, but he has admitted that it is crucial for survival to be a good swimmer and other characters commented that Jade and his twin were very fast due to their unique shape.

Jade is capable of a couple of things by using his magic. Despite disliking being off of the ground due to having grown up in the ocean, he is capable of flight. He cannot just take off from the ground himself, but rather casts an enchantment spell on another object to make it fly and control it to transport himself. He is also able to enchant household objects to clean and do chores, though he prefers to do it himself.

Magical offensive spells in limited elements. He prefers water-based offensive spells that vary in intensity. The water is produced by his magic and while magic can be used without his pen/wand, it is better to be used with it to prevent him from overexerting himself. He is also able to use fire offensive magic, but to a much more minor extent.

‘Shock Your Heart’ is a special ability unique to Jade alone. Shock Your Heart causes his golden eye to glow and cause whoever he is using it to answer any question he personally asks them with complete honesty. There are some flaws to this: 1. Jade has to have never used this ability on his target before. 2. He has to ask them the question personally, it cannot be asked by anyone else. 3. Strong magicians or magic users are not always affected by this ability. In that same vein, it is less likely to work on people who know he has the ability as their guards are much higher around him. As such, he tries not to advertise this ability because it makes it less likely to be successful.

Inventory:
His magic pen. It is an amplifier and limiter to his magical power. It is used to prevent him from ‘overbloting’/’darkening’ from over-extended magic use. All magicians in his world have these gems to protect themselves and they can modify it later on in their lives if they wish into other various items. (Staves or what have you). It acts as a wand as well as a writing tool and the gem is removable and able to be worn as a brooch.
