[ Settling beside him is easy enough, Jade's hands extending begrudgingly toward his toes to reach. Though when he feels Rook's hands move to his shoulders he barely manages to inhale before he realizes his error. He doesn't touch the floor exactly, but the instinct to brace his back certainly earns a shaky breath. Hair coiled up in the space between his legs thanks to how low his body has been bent.
He's always been aware of the rumors of others avoiding Rook in gym, but... to experience it quite like this makes the reality of it so clear. No human should be this strong. ]
Oh--are you alright? Maybe I should have let you warm up a little more, first.....
[Because a little warm up would definitely prepare Jade for being manhandled like this, right? That noise doesn't sound particularly pleasant, though. He hadn't pushed that hard, had he? Just a little steady pressure, to help Jade get down closer to where he's supposed to be? Here, maybe he should help Jade sit back up.....]
A-apologies... That was [ Painful? ] unfortunate. I am fine.
[ It's a relief still, but it's fine enough. Strangely it even does feel a little looser even despite how his body tensed by mistake. ]
You are surprisingly flexible, Rook-san. I am impressed.
[ In his true form flexibility means nothing--more than capable of tying himself into knots and able to twist or turn himself into a tight crevice that this human form could never hope to fit in. Not quite like Azul (or even the form Rook had shown him before) in sheer give, but more than enough to be sufficient. ]
Human bodies are still rather different to what I am used to.
No, I should have been more careful. Of course this body won't move the way you're used to.
[Rook smiles at the compliment, even if he does look a touch rueful. Maybe his warm ups are a little too advanced, for a merman? Coach Vargas expects things like this to come easily, but that's still tailored to an average human student, one who's spent their entire life working with the exact same body. How absurd must exercises like these seem, to someone whose body is naturally able to achieve such feats without conditioning whatsoever?]
I'm so glad to hear it! I always strive to make sure I'm in the best condition I can be. Would it help if you pushed me instead, so you can get used to how the poses are supposed to go? Or maybe I should just be gentler.....?
[How gentle is too gentle? Jade is working with a new body he isn't particularly used to the limitations of, but he's certainly not made of glass, either. One wrong move won't break him. (Or will it?)]
[ Even with a majority of time in this body these days, it's a strange experience to learn something so new. Even human children had the advantage of learning the way their bodies grow and move naturally... slowly. ]
The facility taught us the basics, but much of it is up to us to expand on.
[ Learning everything in his life and more all over again in a rapid span often makes him feel at a disadvantage. Jade leans forward again, this time more expectant of Rook's enthusiastic assistance. ]
There are many parts of this body I am still unused to... I only learned to breathe autonomously not that long ago.
[ It isn't something they've discussed much with the humans, but... perhaps someone like Rook would find it interesting. ]
Really? How incredible..... It must have been so hard to focus on everything else you needed to do. And to sleep! I can't even imagine what a struggle it's been for you to become so gifted so quickly.
[He finds it very interesting. Everything about transitioning between worlds like this is fascinating! Merfolk coming to land have one of the most unique perspectives on life that anyone could have, in his opinion. And knowing that even something they all take so for granted was that much of an obstacle.....
It just makes him all the more in awe of how beautiful and strong and capable Jade is. What amazing talent!]
I wonder if it's more difficult to learn to automate something you need to control, or control something you're used to being autonomous? It must feel strange to swim like this.
[ Even newborns breathe on their own straight from birth... sometimes Jade still catches himself needing to take a breath from time to time. ]
Yes. Swimming like this is much different than I am used to. We had a brief training on it back then, but I practice on my own in that lake on occasion...
[ His position shifts, this time bringing an arm behind his head to stretch it out with a slow, steady exhale. ]
It can be dangerous to forget one's self when swimming and going too deep... not allowing myself sufficient time to surface before these lungs demand to breathe again.
